Disclaimers
The material in this software is meant to demonstrate chemical principles and reactions. The material contained within is not intended to be used as a laboratory manual or guide to performing the experiments. Some of these experiments are dangerous! Virtual Chemistry Lab shall not be held liable for damage or injury caused by attempting to perform these experiments.

No pictures in these experiments have been simulated or digitally created. Some images have been processed to remove distracting reflections and dark areas.
Using an Internet Browser
Virtual Chemistry Lab software is a series of interconnected World Wide Web (WWW) pages stored on CD or disk. As such, utilizing the software requires an internet browser. The two most common browsers are Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. While using either of these should be acceptable, this software was designed to be used with Netscape. You may encounter some formatting problems when using Explorer. Users familiar with web browsers will have no difficulty with the software. Users unfamiliar with web browsers should read the tutorial information available on Netscape or Microsoft WWW pages. For those users not connected to the internet, click here to access excerpts from Netscape's online manual.
These four buttons appear on many of the screens and should be helpful in navigating through the experiments.
- returns you to the main experiment menu
- shows you a periodic table
- brings you to the lab techniques page
- gives you a listing of the major pages within the experiment
Monitor Color Settings
The pictures in Virtual Chemistry Lab software are best viewed with "thousands" of colors or greater. Pictures will be acceptable at 256 colors, but some details will be lost. Using less than 256 colors will not produce usable results.
Data Sheets
This software has been designed for you to record data in laboratory notebooks. However, data sheets have been provided for several of the experiments. Check with your instructor to determine if they should be used.
Optional Material
A number of experiments contain optional material. You should check with your instructor to ensure that you perform all required parts of the experiment.
Tips
You can enlarge the viewing area on small monitors by removing the "directory buttons" and "location" under the "options" menu of Netscape.
